21 September: A Day of Peace That Connects the World
“To dress in peace is to wear wasou.”
“We do not fight, because our kimono would be spoiled.”
Heiwa Matsuri is a festival that treats Japanese dress as a symbol of peace, and carries a message of peace from Japan out to the world.
There are no borders in the sky. There are no borders in the heart.
On 21 September 2026, the International Day of Peace, we will connect communities across Japan and around the world online, and send our wish for peace outward from all of them at once.
The programme will feature live links from each location, along with invited guests.
Join us from home, from work, or from wherever you happen to be travelling — ideally in Japanese dress, or in anything that carries a sense of wa.

How to Take Part
Anyone can watch the YouTube live stream free of charge. There is no sign-up and no application form.
Japanese dress is very welcome, but so is a single Japanese accessory, or any outfit that carries a sense of wa.
Even from the other side of a screen, a wish for peace still reaches the world.
